The Jaguars and the Pantanal of Brazil Workshop
7-Day Pre and Post trip extension for Brazilian Wildlife Photographic Workshop
Scheduled Dates
- Pre-Trip: July 18-24, 2010 - FULL!
Overview
An amazing new wildlife destination has burst onto the South American scene: the Parnaiba Headwaters National Park (PNHP). The sunny valley and 1,000-foot-tall, red sandstone cliffs of this new reserve offer unique, charismatic wildlife like the Hyacinth Macaw, Greenwing Macaw, Maned Wolf, and tool-using Eistein Monkeys (Brown Capuchin). On this trip we visit three distinct areas with their own scenery and wildlife spectacles. The Hyacinth Valley offers the world's largest and most photogenic flock of endangered Hyacinth Macaws. The researchers have documented 176 different individuals at the viewing location - a comfortable and roomy blind located 9-18 meters from the birds as they forage on palm nuts in perfect light. Flocks of 40-80 Hyacinths visit this foraging spot daily. Another location, Hyacinth Cliffs, is located in the middle of the national park and features huge, red-rock cliffs and the world's best viewing of an amazingly tall, elegant canid - the endangered Maned Wolf. Each afternoon or evening, 1-3 of these striking, long-legged predators wander within view of our lodge, posing in natural habitat for photography. At our third location, Greenwing Valley, we will be amazed by the "Einstein Monkeys." These Brown Capuchins naturally use sandstone anvils and special igneous rocks as hammers to crack open hard palm nuts. This is the most complex tool use of any non-human primate. We will also have a chance to photograph the beautiful Greenwinged Macaws at close range from a comfortable blind as they feed on their favorite type of Palm nuts.
We will be spending three nights at the Hyacinth Valley Lodge which has bungalows with private in-suite bathrooms and warm showers. One night we will spend at Greenwing Valley Camp, which has roomy, sealed, walk-in tents with wooden floors and normal beds. Two additional nights will be spent at a comfortable hotel in Brazilia (one at the beginning and one at the end).
Workshop Cost: $2,295.00 per person, double occupancy. There is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 people on this extension.
