Bird photography workshop in Bosque del Apache

Bird photography workshop in Bosque del Apache2-Day Photography Workshop, focusing on the art of photographing birds.

Scheduled Dates: January 2009 (Dates TBD)

If you enjoy birds... thousands of birds, this is the place for you. Tens of thousands of birds - including Sandhill Cranes, Snow geese, and many kinds of ducks - gather here each autumn and stay through the winter. Feeding snow geese erupt in explosions of wings when frightened by a stalking Coyote and at dusk, flight after flight of geese and cranes return to roost in the marshes. Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge lies along nine miles of the Rio Grande River in south central New Mexico. Although the area is in the Chihuahuan desert, the refuge land along the river is lush, an oasis in an otherwise inhospitable area.

Bird photography workshop in Bosque del ApacheWe'll be getting up before dawn every morning and driving the 15 minutes to the refuge. You won't believe your eyes, and ears when you experience thousands of Snow Geese get off the water all at the same time... with a brilliant red sunrise as a backdrop! We'll be practicing panning flight shots, slow shutter speed blurs, artistic landscapes with birds, use of fill-flash, and tons more. This is a wonderful place to practice your bird photography. What’s also nice, the birds are large and fly very slowly! You don't need a 600mm lens to be successful. A 300-400mm lens is quite enough. If you are shooting with Canon, you'll also have a chance to shoot with my 600mm f/4.
