Alaska Bear Workshop - September 2005 As you can see from the photos, we had a very good trip to Brooks camp this year! Sows with cubs were the big hit this year. I would say we had 4 or 5 mothers with cubs that really put on a show for us. Within minutes of landing on Naknak beach we were greeted by a sow with three cubs of the year walking down the beach right past our camp site. Along with all the sow and cubs activity, we did get a couple big boars (males) hanging out fishing at the upper falls.
My favorite moment of the trip came on our 4th morning. We got up early and made our way across the water bridge (lots of bear jams this year) and set up on the lower platform across from the sand spit. As sunrise turned the water to red, all our wishes were answered when a bear appeared and walked backlight across the spit. The red light only lasted a couple minutes before it turned to yellow... We all had time to make some incredible images and memories of that morning light and that bear with perfect timing! I'll be doing the same trip next year at around the same time, so sign up early as this trip fills up fast. Other Recent TripsClick on the thumbnail image to view a short report of my recent trip.
