Alaska Bear - September 2008Back to Alaska to visit our furry friends at Brooks this last September. For this year’s “recent trips” I’ve features images from our workshop participants. Mark Garbutt (Garbuttphoto.com) was once again my co-leader on this year’s trip. As always, his sunny personality, naturalist/photographic skills, trail and bear knowledge, and amazing camp culinary expertise was appreciated by all. A huge “thank you” Mark! I would not want to do this workshop with you.
This year was a bit more rainy than most, but we were able to get out and photograph the bears every day. As usual, we had a good number of sows (female bears) and cubs concentrated at the lower platform and river outlet going into Naknak Lake. On one early morning at the lower platform we got a quick glimpse of a light colored wolf! This was my first wolf seen at Brooks. Last year I was shown photographs of a wolf that was coming to the upper falls to fish for salmon! So they are around... just not that easy to see.
Enjoy these select images from this year’s guests and perhaps I’ll see you next year as one of our “camping with Bears” clients......
Cheers
Roy Toft
